PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING <br /> CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> ANOKA COUNTY <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />A regular meeting of the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission was held <br />on January 17, 1980, at the Ramsey. Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard <br />N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303 <br /> <br />Members Present: John Lichter, Dennis Donovan, Janice Johnson, Dick Swanson <br /> Terry McLean, Greg Drake <br /> <br />Also Present: Mayor Tom Gamec <br /> <br />The meeting was~-called to'order at 7:05 P.M. on a motion by Dick Swanson and <br />seconded by Greg Drake, the-minutes of ~the December-.20,~t979 regular.Park <br />and Recreation ~Commission were approved unanimously. <br /> <br />Chairman Donovan reported on.Council meetin~ items pertaining to'.park business. <br />The Council does not want to have to maintain neighborhood ice rinks, therefore, <br />the requests at Forest Hideaway and Ramsey Terrace Parks were denied. <br /> <br />The Council did agree that movement of the playground equipment from Whispering <br />Pines and Riverwood Hills Parks, that which~is not being used, to Forest <br />Hideaway is a good idea. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM 3a <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec reported on three meetings he had with Federal Cartridge. They <br />are considering the donation of 51 acres of high rolling land for park purposes. <br />The land lies mostly in the SW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 16 west of the <br />Gun Club. The Mayor also reported on a $4.5 million county/city owned <br />pool, ice arena and trail system in the preliminary planning-stages. The site <br />is adjacent to'the Rum River east of the S.T.H. 47 and C.S.~A.H. 116 intersection. <br />The property also includes right of way for the proposed bridge at Co. Rd. 116. <br />Grant funding is being sought through EDA. The project could possibly be <br />underway this Fall. The ~ity has authorized $4,000 out of general funds to assist <br />with the development of the grant application. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM 3b <br /> <br />Dick Swanson presented a maintenance budget estimate for a 40 acre park and <br />a list of capital expenditures for equipment. The total cost for equip- <br />ment is $59,350. A raw labor cost for a 4 man park department was estimated <br />at $58,400 annually. Dick met with Merle Mevissen, Street Superintendent, <br />and detailed each maintenmnce task to derive the budget. Seasonal maintenance <br />factors were also studied. An eight page report which-details this infor- <br />mation was supplied to everyone present at the meeting.. Mr. Swanson was <br />complimented on his report by the Chairman. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM 4 <br /> <br />Chairman Donovan reviewed Park accomplishments during 1979.
