The following comments were offered in regard to the request
for waiving the requirement for the exterior appearance of th~. bui~di~g~

Mayor Gamec feels that one of the malhn purposes of the site plan
ordinance is to start getting the businesses~ cleaned up and improved
in appearance and to set consistent s~andard~ for all'ex~sti~g
businesses (~hich can be done with the' Site plan when they expand o~
alter) and on all new developments that are proposed in either commercial
or industrial areas.

Councilman Mickelson stated that one of h~s.main concerns is that the
'present company, Midwestern Underground~ .~ay not always be occupying
this building and it should be built so that it would fit other ~ndus%~al
users who may. purchase it in the future~ He noted that th~s-building Ss
proposed to be built on a separate parcel o~ land and therefore~ it could
be sold apart from the .existing busines~

Councilman Cox indicated that he would like to see so~e exterior i~prove~ent
to the building and also to try and encourage the ~wners to u~rade the
appearance of their existing building~ if not now~ in the'future..

Councilman Mickelson added that he feels- i~ the City i~ going to ha.ve a
set of standards to operate with that it should De consistent and t~eat
everyone the same! further, a wood frame bulld~ng ~s completely different
from the set of standards that were Jus.% se~ up to prohibi~ this type of
building~

Councilman Rei~nann expressed concern that T~aybe the City is gettimg too
restrictive for a person such as this that just w~nts.toput up a building
for cold stor.age uses~

BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT/MIDWESTERNI3NDERGROUND
January 8, 1980 Page
