AI.I~L;RT lt. QUIF.
(iOVI:RNOR

March 14, 1980

Dear Mayor:

As in past years, we are writing to inform you that the Governor will be pro-
claiming the week of April 20-26, 1980 as "Volunteer Recognition Week" in
Minnesota. These dates, which coincide with National Volunteer Recognition
Week, will be set aside by Governor Quie as a time to recognize and honor
Minnesota's many fine volunteers.

We are hoping that you, in your role as a community leader, will contribute
to this effort by recognizing individuals who volunteer in city services; by
participating in the volunteer recognition events of other local organizations;
and by proclaiming the dates of April 20-26, 1980 as "Volunteer Recognition
Week" in your city. We feel that it is very important to volunteers and vol-
unteerism to receive this recognition and visibility.

During this week, many agencies and organizations will be paying tribute to
their volunteers. "Volunteer Recognition Week" not only affords volunteer
programs and community leaders the opportunity to salute their volunteers, but
also to carry the word of their achievements to the entire community. This,
in turn, encourages greater citizen involvement to meet the community's needs
by drawing attention to the opportunities and rewards of volunteer servic6s.

If you would like, the Governor's Office of Volunteer Services can provide you
with sample "Volunteer Recognition Week" proclamations. In addition, we have
several resources to assist in local recognition efforts. Enclosed is a list
of those materials and an accompanying order form. There is no charge for
these items, however, quantities are limited.

If you have any questions, or if we can be of further assistance, please do
not hesitate to contact us by writing to the Governor's Office of Volunteer
Services, 130 State Capitol, St. Paul, MN 55155, or by calling 296-4731.
Outside the metro area, use our toll free number 1/800/652-9747 and ask the
operator for our office.

Thank you for your assistance in this important event.

LLG:pa
Enclosures

Sincerely,

Laura Lee M. Geraghty, Director
Governor's Office of Volunteer Services

AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
.~
