D-473A(L)
(5-SO)

/ ~PARTMENT
UNITED STATES
Bureau of the Census
Regional Office
Kansas City, Kansas 66101

OF COMMERCE

Dear Local Official:

The 1980 Census of Population and Housing data collection phase is now
nearing completion. The purpose of this letter is to transmit unofficial
1980 census housing and population counts which will enable you to par-
ticipate in the Local Review Program, as announced and described in
materials previously sent to you. These counts are not final and have
been tabulated solely for review purposes.

Enclosed is a computer listing showing these counts for the legal bound-
aries of your jurisdiction which existed on January 1, 1978, or for
those areas which were enumerated by the door-to-door conventional method,
January 1, 1979. The final census counts will be for areas as legally
defined as of January 1, 1980. If you choose to review the enclosed
counts, please inform the cnesus representative of any possible problems
within 10 working days of receipt of this letter. We are asking that you
respond within the 10 days because our time is limited and we are obligated
to provide final census counts to the President by January 1, 1981, and
must complete the census taking operations in time to be able to meet this
date and to provide sufficient time to resolve the problems which you may
raise. The Census Bureau is allowing about 4 weeks to resolve these prob-
lems and a total of about 45 calendar days is, therefore, available for
the entire lo6al review process. If you have reported problems within
the 2 weeks allowed, and then discover additional serious problems, they
will be checked to the extent possible. The name, address, and the
phone number of the census representative to whom these problems should
be addressed are shown in the enclosure.

Census maps of your jurisdiction were sent to you in April/May. The
enumeration ~istricts (ED's) shown on the maps correspond, for the most
part, to the ED's shown on the enclosed listing. However, there may be
a few ED's on the listings that are not shown on the maps because correc-
tions have been made since the maps were prepared. Your census repre-
sentative will be able to assist you when problems occur.
