SPECIAL PROVISIONS - SP20I6 BOOK <br />Last Revision by CO Special Provisions: 2/08/17 <br />Moving average of 3 <br />consecutive strength tests <br />>93.0%off'c <br />> 87.5% and < 93.0% of fc <br /><87.5%offc <br />Created August 20, 2015 <br />Page 45 <br />SP 0202-101 <br />Table 2461-19 <br />All Concrete Grades <br />Monetary Reduction for Moving Average Failure * <br />$20.00 per cubic yard or 10% of the Contractor -provided <br />invoice for quantity represented by test that brought <br />moving average into non-conformance <br />$50.00 per cubic yard or 25% of the Contractor -provided <br />invoice for quantity represented by test that brought <br />moving average into non-conformance <br />Remove and replace concrete in accordance with 1503, <br />"Conformity with Contract Documents," and 1512, <br />"Unacceptable and Unauthorized Work," as directed by the <br />Engineer. <br />If the Engineer, in conjunction with the Concrete Engineer, <br />determines the concrete can remain in place, the Engineer <br />will adjust the concrete at a reduction of $100.00 per cubic <br />yard or 50% of the Contractor -provided invoice for <br />quantity represented by test that brought moving average <br />into non-conformance. <br />S-32.35 MnDOT 2461.3.G.6.a and 2461.3.G.6.a(1) shall be deleted and replaced with the following: <br />G.6.a Development of Maturity -Strength Relationship <br />The Engineer will allow development of the maturity curve in either the laboratory or in the field, <br />provided the precautions for field curing and testing are followed, as described in the Concrete Manual. <br />Test the concrete strength specimens for development of the maturity curve. <br />Determine the strength development criteria based on the type of concrete in accordance with the <br />following: <br />(1) For concrete pavement: 2301.3.0, "Opening Pavement to Traffic," <br />(2) For concrete pavement repairs: 2302.3.B.4, "Opening to Construction Equipment and <br />Traffic," <br />(3) For concrete structures: 2401.3.G, "Concrete Curing and Protection" <br />(4) For sidewalks, driveway entrances and curb and gutter, a minimum of 3000 psi [20.6 <br />MPa] is required. <br />Until an acceptable strength -maturity relationship is established, verify strength using concrete <br />beams or cylinders. <br />G.6.a(1) Procedure <br />Estimate the in -place concrete strength using the maturity method as described in ASTM C 1074, <br />except as noted in this specification as follows: <br />(a) Fabricate 15 cylinders plus 2 additional cylinders to embed temperature sensors or 15 <br />beams; <br />(b) The Nurse -Saul method of computing maturity; <br />(c) A datum temperature of -10°C (14°F); <br />(d) Maintain specimens at temperatures greater than 50° F for the duration of the maturity <br />curve development. <br />Test three (3) strength specimens at five different ages specified in Table 2461-20 for the type of <br />concrete work. <br />
