Councilmember Elvig stated that he agrees that this should be put on the shelf until the Ramsey3 <br />group has completed the process and feels it will be interesting to compare the visions. He stated <br />that he would like to make a comment on the first line of the Vision Statement. He stated that <br />the word beautiful is a hard word to define and that he also has trouble with the phrase “truly <br />live”. He stated that he doesn’t think adjectives are very helpful in a Vision Statement unless <br />they are more carefully chosen. <br />Councilmember Olson stated that she thinks a Vision Statement should be more concise than this <br />one. <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he also feels the Vision Statement should be worded simply so <br />everyone can understand it. <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he was not at the Strategic Planning session, but was very <br />pleased with the ideas that came out of it. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that the intent is for this to be placed on the March <br />11, 2008 agenda to accept the report from the facilitator and later adopt the goals, work plan and <br />objectives. She reviewed the proposed language change in Goal 1. She stated that Goal 2 has no <br />th <br />major changes, but has some items that staff did not remember discussing, such as, create a 6 <br />community park on the north side of the City and establish a Park and Recreation Department. <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he thought this was discussed last year. <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he did not remember discussing it this year either. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that although this is a 5-year document, the bullet <br />points are intended to be for 2008-09. She stated that she thinks these were intended to be more <br />long-term goals and suggested that they be removed from focus points. <br />Councilmember Strommen asked why the language was changed for the overall goal because she <br />feels the language crafted in 2007 was much stronger. <br />There was a Consensus to strike the 2008 language and leave the 2007 language in for the <br />overall goal 2. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson asked how the Council felt about the proposed language for <br />goal 1. <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he prefers the 2007 language. <br />City Administrator Ulrich stated that the Ramsey Town Center is not the only tax base in town <br />and suggested that the Ramsey Town Center (RTC) should be defined as a strategy within the <br />overall goal to broaden the tax base. <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that she likes that suggestion. <br />City Council Work Session / March 3, 2008 <br />Page 5 of 9 <br /> <br />
