Councilmember Dehen noted that the RTC will also provide service for residents. <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he feels the Industrial Park should also be included along with <br />commercial and residential components. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that she will rewrite this goal with the Council’s <br />suggestions in mind. She reviewed goals 3 and 4. <br />There was a Consensus to retain the 2007 language for the overall goal for goal 4. <br />Councilmember Elvig asked if Fire Stations 2 and 3 are realistic expectations for 2008-09. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that this is to incorporate them in the fiscal impact. <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he thinks the recycling statement needs clarification because <br />he thinks it could be viewed as a place for refrigerators and t.v.s to be disposed. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that the intent is for natural materials only and <br />suggested that the word recyclingbe removed. She reviewed goal 5. <br />There was a consensus of the Council to use the 2008 language for goal 5. <br />Councilmember Dehen asked about including a pedestrian crossing over Hwy 10. <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he would like that to be a work session discussion because <br />there is money available through the Met Council if there is a regional trail plan. <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that goal 6 is a new goal that is about encouraging <br />“green” housing. <br />Councilmember Olson stated that they discussed developing incentives through the <br />Comprehensive Plan for builders to have “green” housing and noted that there is a designation <br />that cities can have, like “eco-friendly”. She stated that she also recalls discussion about ways <br />for the City to attract higher end developments, which was not included in this document. <br />Councilmember Elvig stated that he is concerned about the emphasis on “green” development <br />because it is not very affordable. <br />Councilmember Strommen stated that there is an effort in Minnesota to link “green” <br />development with affordability. <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that he doesn’t like the use of the word “green” because it is <br />unclear as to what it actually means. <br />City Council Work Session / March 3, 2008 <br />Page 6 of 9 <br /> <br />
