Councilmember Hendrikgen gtated that they don't have any idea what other City'g charge for
similar services.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler noted that the fees being proposed was what Oak
Grove was currently charging.

Motion by Councihnember Kurak, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to direct staff to
forward the proposal to Burns Township for consideration and if Burns Township accepts the
proposal then direct the City Attorney to draft the appropriate contract for Council consideration.

Further discussion: Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if they were to determine that the rates
being proposed would they be bound to those rates.

Motion was withdrawn.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler inquired if the cost was the only concern with the
proposal.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that they need to make sure that the they cover all their real
costs, including depreciation of equipment and make sure that the City is covered well enough so
that they are not subsidizing their fire protection. He recommended putting together a proposal
that does not bind the City into a certain fee to allow staff to do some necessary research before
making a final decision.

City Attorney Goodrich recommended that the Council direct staff to forward the proposal for
consideration contingent upon the Fire Chief determining if the charges are reasonable.

Motion by Councilmember Kurak, seconded by Councilmember Anderson, to direct staff to
forward the proposal to Burns Township for consideration, contingent upon the Fire Chief
determining if similar fees charged by other communities are comparable to what is being quoted
to Burns Township and if Burns Township accepts the proposal in concept then direct the City
Attorney to draft an appropriate contract for Council consideration and final approval.

Further discussion: Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if the proposal was not binding. City
Attorney Goodrich replied that was correct.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, and Councilmembers Kurak, Anderson,
Hendriksen, and Zimmerman.
