Community Spotlight:
The Ramsey Rotary Club was formed
in 2006. Today, the Rotary has 19 active mem-
bers including both Ramsey residents and mem-
bers of the Ramsey business community, repre-
senting many different industries. The Rotary is
led by a Board of four members: President Vicki
Wredberg, Secretary Jay Nelson, Treasurer Jeff
Katers and Past President Kevin Bittner.
Our work: The Ramsey Rotary brings
together
a net-
work of
volunteer
leaders
who ded-
icate their
time and
talents
to giving
back to
their community. The Rotary's service projects
focus on assisting women, children and un-
derserved members of the community. Their
work has spanned many different aspects of the
community, from installing Little Free Libraries
in Ramsey parks and distributing dictionaries to
all third grade classrooms in the area, to partner-
ships with organizations like Habitat for Hu-
manity and Toys for Joy, as well as youth men-
toring. The Ramsey Rotary also hosts an annual
Taste of Happy Days event to raise donations for
local nonprofits such as the Alexandra House
and Hope for Youth, sponsorships for The Draw
Summer Event Series and the Anne Talle Schol-
arship for high school seniors, and grants for
various community projects like the installation
of the public bathroom at The Draw park.
How to get involved: The Ramsey Rotary
meets every Wednesday at noon, at Ramsey
City Hall for a one hour lunch meeting and
guest speaker event. The Rotary invites anyone
interested in getting involved to join them at
one of their weekly meetings, visit their website
RamseyRotary.org, or follow them on Facebook.
Ramsey Service Organizations
The Ramsey Lions Club was chartered in 1973 and is
currently led by President Frank Frederick, Vice President Randy
Bettinger, Secretary Julie Strauss, Treasurer Susan Witbeck and
Gambling Manager Tom Strauss. The Ramsey Lions Club has
23 members who work to provide services to the community and
help to local families in need.
Our work: The Ramsey Lions Club members contribute
many hours of volunteer work. Their community service includes
projects like picking up trash along our roadways or delivering
baskets of food and gifts to those less
fortunate around Thanksgiving and
the holidays. They are also involved in
many community events including the
annual Happy Days Festival, The Draw
Summer Event Series, Holiday in Lights
at the Anoka County Fairgrounds, the
Game Fair and the Nowthen Threshing
Show. Through these events, and more,
the Ramsey Lions raise funds to support
various initiatives such as scholarships
for local high school students, sponsorship of the Anoka Hallow-
een Ambassador Program and the donation of a Service Dog to a
resident in need.
How to get involved: If you have an interest in serving your
community, the Lions are always looking for help. They invite
you to attend their regular meetings, held on the third Wednesday
of every month at Willy McCoy's in Ramsey at 7:00 pm. You
can also follow the Ramsey Lions on Facebook at Ramsey Lions
Minnesota, or visit their website RamseyLions.org to stay up to
date with their projects, fundraisers and other community events.
Driver Improvement
Classes for 55+
The Ramsey Lions are offering to Ramsey and Nowthen
residents a chance to take Driver Improvement Classes.
Classes will be held at the Ramsey Municipal Center, Alex-
ander Ramsey Room, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, Ramsey, MN.
For more information and to sign up for classes, please call St.
Cloud University at 1-888-234-1294 or visit wwwmnsafetycen-
ter.org.
4 Hour Refresher Class (Repeat Student)
Tuesday, January 23, 2018
5:00 — 9:00 pm
Ramsey Resident • January/February 2018
