The comments he received were outstanding <br />on both the Police Department and the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Counci hnember Cook commended the community and the businesses that assisted in the tragedy. <br />He stated it was a very good thing for the Community to come together in this time of tragedy. <br /> <br />2) Consider Ratification of Hiring of Patrol Officer <br /> <br />Moved up in the agenda to be acted on prior to the swearing in of officer James Bonine. <br /> <br />3) Consider Authorization to Hire Two Full-Time, Regular Building Inspectors <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson reviewed that as a part of the 2005 Budget, two additional <br />full-time regular Building Inspector positions were created in the Community Development <br />Department-Building Division. Staff received authorization to recruit for the positions at the <br />regular meeting of the City Council on December 14, 2004. Staff conducted an internal <br />recruitment for the positions and three applications were received. Interviews were conducted <br />and staff is recommending staggering the hire dates for seniority purposes. Assistant City <br />Administrator Nelson advised staff is recommending that the Council authorize staff to hire <br />Stephen Burnham to the position of Building Inspector at an hourly rate of $21.91. All regular <br />personnel policies will apply. Mr. Bumham's start date will be January 12, 2005. Staff is also <br />recommending that the Council authorize to hire Scott Jensen to the position of Building <br />Inspector at an hourly rate of $21.91. All regular personnel policies will apply. Mr. Jensen's <br />start date will be January 13, 2005. <br /> <br />4) Consider Reclassification and Pay Scale Adjustments of City Positions <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson reviewed that as a part of the 2005 budget process, staff <br />discussed with Council the need to evaluate job descriptions for a number of City positions. <br />Staff included in the 2005 budget, which was approved at the regular meeting of the City Council <br />on December ~4, 2004, funds to cover the costs of potential pay scale adjustments for these <br />positions. These positions include: Police Captain, zoning Specialist, Department Secretary, <br />Records Management Clerk, and Fire Marshall. The Zoning/Recycling Coordinator and Fire <br />Marshall are new titles for the existing :Community Development Assistant and the Fire <br />Inspector, respectively. The position of Community Development Assistant and Fire Inspector <br />are not funded to be filled as a part of the 2005 budget. The Council's packet includes <br />information on the recommended pay scale adjustments. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson indicated the Fire Marshall position is still under study. <br />Staff hopes to bring that information back to the last meeting in January or first meeting in <br />February. Staff studied other cities in determining these adjustments.
