Assistant City Administrator NelSon indicated there were concerns raised by Public Works about <br />the dry stack material that need further discUssion. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated if Public Works has a problem with the dry stack wall it should be <br />eliminated from the choices. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson indicated the fence can be discussed further, but a <br />wrought iron fence would be preferable. <br /> <br />The consensus of the Council was to add in at least one of the components of the perimeter fence <br />and look at alternates for both of the components. <br /> <br />Increase Emergency Gqnerator Size <br />The consensus of the Council was! to remain with the 250kw emergency generator. <br /> <br />Additional Landscaping for coordination With parking ramp <br />No determination to be ;made at this time. <br /> <br />Pervious Pavers versusAsphalt Paving <br />Mr. Redmond reviewed with the Council the option of pervious pavers versus asphalt paving. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director Olson iexplained the guiding principal behind the design <br />guidelines is to select a Best Management Practice to increase the water quality of the <br />downstream water. This can be done in ~a number of ways, such as rain gardens and porous <br />pavement. In this instance the oPtions are :to utilize a stormsceptor system or the porous pavers. <br />Since this project creates a new outlet to :the Mississippi River the Best Management Practice <br />will go above and beyond what is normally required. He noted it would be difficult to require <br />this of other developers if the City does not adopt this practice. <br /> <br />The Council discussed the maintenance that wOuld be required to upkeep the pavers. <br /> <br />Assistant Public Works Director:Olson advised this area is not likely the best situation for the <br />pavers due to the maintenance that will be required. He explained the requirements will be met <br />with the stormsceptor and the water quality will be protected. <br /> <br />Councilmember Elvig suggested the porous pavers be utilized in a sidewalk area that uses <br />sweepers, rather than heavy vehicles like Plows where damage to the pavers would be likely. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec directed staff to review this with the Public Works Department and bring more <br />information back to the Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strommen stated she understands the maintenance concerns, but the Council <br />should also think about the statement they Want to make here above and beyond the maintenance <br />concerns.
