cash would be the best option because she does not know how important the land would be to
connect.

Commissioner Shryock explained she did not l~ave a problem with taking cash for park
dedication but this would be the time to talk about Trott Brook.

Chairperson Johns noted that this entire piece of property runs along Trott Brook so they could
do something along there to preserve that. .. '~

Assistant Public Works Director Olson stated they could reinitiate those discussions. Based' on
the magnitude of this plat, will the owner go forward with subdividing one piece of land if he has
to give up land along Trott Brook and there is an pppormnity to reserve the land along Trott
Brook with another piece of property.

Commissioner Olds asked what the likelihood of sewer going in to the area in next fifty years.

Chairperson Johns asked how about in the next five years.

Assistant Public Works Director Olson explained there would be little chance of it coming in five
years and he could not project fifty years from now.

Commissioner Olds asked if they knew when the original plat was done fo/' this house.

Assistant Public Works Director Olson stated he did not research this but he thought it was done
in the eighties.

Chairperson Johns stated she would want the owners to know Trott Brook is of interest to them
especially if they subdivide further in the future. She asked if they took the land, how much
would that come out to be.

Commissioner Olds explained in looking at the .diagram, between Trott Brook and the dotted line
that indicates the lot line, all of this is low land sO he wondered if this could be useable for
walking or is it swamp type land.

Commissioner Shryock stated they are going through this with a lot of land currently with Trott
Brook.

Chairperson Johns expressed that her point is, this may not be the issue, the trail may still go to
the north but why not make the preservation ali the way to the river and preserve Trott Brook.

Commissioner Olds asked if Chairperson Johns was suggesting a preservation corridor of Trott
Brook.

Chairperson Johns asked if this would be realistic with the $1,800.00.

Park and Recreation Commission/November 13, 2003
Page 4 of 11
