Voting Yes: <br />Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #2: <br /> <br /> ChairpersOn COok, and Councilmembers Jeffrey and Pearson. <br /> <br />Consider Reclassification of Fire Inspector Position and Pay Scale for Fire <br />Marshal Position <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson'eXpli~ihed ~:a'part of the 2005 budget process, staff <br />discussed with Council the need to evaluate job descriptions for a number of City positions. <br />Staff included in the 2005 budget, which was approved at the regular meeting of the City Council <br />on December 14, 2004, funds to cover the costs of potential pay scale adjustments for these <br />positions. One of these positions is the Fire Marshal position. The Fire Marshal is a new title for <br />the existing Fire Inspector position. Staff has Completed a study of the Fire Marshal position. <br />The position of Fire Inspector is not funded to be filled as a part of the 2005 budget. She <br />explained staff has updated the job description for the Fire Marshal position identified above and <br />evaluated it for points associated with pay equity. Staff has also completed an analysis for the <br />comparable pay scale in the Stanton 6 Group Cities Report as well as relational pay within the <br />City of Ramsey organization. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson advised :staff is recommending the following pay scale for <br />the Fire Marshal position: <br /> <br />Position <br />Fire Marshal <br /> <br />Current Range of Fire Inspector <br />$21.91 - $27.38 per hour <br /> <br />Proposed Range of Fire Marshal <br />$23.46 - $30.50 per hour <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator advised the adjustment for the Fire Marshal position is reflective of <br />the market for its classification ora municipal position. The proposed pay scale change would be <br />retroactive to January 1, 2005. The proposed pay scale adjustment is within the collective $7,500 <br />budgeted for this purpose in the 2005 budget. She advised staff is recommending reclassifying <br />the Fire Inspector position to Fire Marshal. Staff is also recommending the proposed pay scale <br />for the Fire Marshal position. <br /> <br />Councihnember Jeffrey asked if the Fire Inspector position has always included Fire Marshal <br />duties and is now becoming reflective of the actual duties performed. <br /> <br />Public Works Director Kapler rePlied the current Fire Inspector has performed above and beyond <br />that titlc. As Fire Marshal he will be conducting inspections and reporting the action to him. <br />The Fire Marshal will also continue to be in Charge of fire prevention activities, school activities, <br />and completing pre-plans. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffrey stated it is vet3, imPortant to do this analysis and have all of the positions <br />classified correctly. <br /> <br />Councihnelnber Cook inquired if the Fire Marshal will have the ability to issue citations. <br /> <br />Personnel Committee/February 22, 2005 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />
