Commissioner Olds thought there might be a problem in areas where the parks and trails are
more hidden or where the neighbors might let the dogs run.
Vice Chairperson Ostrum wondered if there was a problem with putting waste in the garbage.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood did not think that would be a problem. He thought a
paragraph in the "Ramsey Resident" would be helpful also. He also thought maybe the police
reserves could patrol the parks in the evening.
Commissioner Lehman wondered if Ramsey has had any requests for just a dog park.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated they have had some requests and he thought
Rockslide Park may be the ideal spot but it would need to be fenced in. He also thought the
hockey rinks would be ideal for running dogs because they are enclosed.
Consensus of the Commission was to place signs in the parks, put information on the website, in
the "Ramsey Resident" and to have Civil Engineer II Linton write a letter to the resident
regarding what was discussed.
COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT
• Trail Mapping
It was requested to get going on the trail mapping by a note from Chairperson Johns to
Commissioner Ostrum. She would like to get this information for the September meeting.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated there has been little done on the mapping but
significant work done on the trails. The delays they have experienced up to this point have been
by the Consultant.
Vice Chairperson Ostrum wondered what happened to the work on the Trail Construction
Project.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated this was slated to be done in the next year but the
trail fund does not have enough money to compete with that. He noted Mayor Gamac noted
there was Federal money for trails. He stated the Elmcrest project came up and took up a lot of
the park money and the opportunity came to get the road connected to 157th. In terms of trails,
other than certain sections along 47, this should be their greatest priority.
Commissioner Shryock stated she did not think there was a trail along Yolite and there should
be.
Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood thought they should extend the trail but there is some
reason why this did not occur.
Park and Recreation Commission/August 12,2004
Page 3 of 5
