Unless the concurrent activities support transportation, they <br />will not be eligible for reimbursement. <br />(2) Secondary Selection Criteria <br />(a) Innovation <br />This section of the application should describe innovative strategies used and the <br />anticipated benefits of using those strategies, including those corresponding to three <br />categories (described in Section E.1.i.(f) of this notice): (i) Innovative Technologies, (ii) <br />Innovative Project Delivery, or (iii) Innovative Financing. <br />(i) Innovative Technologies <br />If an applicant is proposing to adopt innovative safety approaches or technology, <br />the application should demonstrate the applicant's capacity to implement those <br />innovations, the applicant's understanding of applicable Federal requirements and <br />whether the innovations may require extraordinary permitting, approvals, exemptions, <br />waivers, or other procedural actions, and the effects of those innovations on the project <br />delivery timeline. <br />If an applicant is proposing to deploy innovative traveler information systems or <br />technologies as part of the surface transportation capital project, including work zone <br />data exchanges or related data exchanges, the application should demonstrate the <br />applicant's capacity to implement these innovations, the applicant's understanding of <br />applicable data standards, and whether the proposed innovations will advance safety or <br />other benefits during and after project completion. <br />If an applicant is proposing to deploy autonomous vehicles or other innovative <br />motor vehicle technology, the application should demonstrate that all vehicles will <br />PAGE 17 <br />
