The Commission liked the meeting schedule at written.

Motion by Commissioner Olds, seconded by Commissioner Ostrum, to accept the schedule as
provided by staff and to invite the City Council and Schedule a Joint meeting with them in June
2005 at Alpine Park.

Motion can4ed. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Olds, Ostrum, LaMere, Olds,
Ostrum, Pontius and Stn~/ock. Voting No: None. Absent: Lehman.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

Environmental Expo Signup

Civil Engineer 1I Linton stated they have the Envh'onmental Expo coming up on May 7, 2005.
He asked for volunteers.

The Commission discussed when they would be available.

Chairperson Johns stated she would not be able to make the Expo this year.

Mayor Gamac noted he does a tour of the parks every couple of weeks. He stated the parks look
great. He walked a lot of the infields and outfields in Central Park. He wanted to commend the
staff and ground crews for all-of their work. He stated it really surprised him that some of the
kids in the parks were from other cities. He thought their parks were the best in the area.

Commissioner Olds noticed on County Road 5, north of City Hail, they are starting to put in
trails. He wondered how the trail would be addressed by the culvert. He wondered if there
would be an easement put in.

Civil Engineer II Linton stated he was not sure at this point how they will address that.

Commissioner Ostrum asked what the impact will be on bituminous with the fuel costs going up.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood stated the bids coming in have been higher and he did not
know if this was because of fuel costs going up or not.'

Cormnissioner Shryock stated she has noticed there has been a lot of tree removal with
development of trails. She wondered how this affected things.

Civil Engineer ~[ Linton thought most of the trails were in the right-of-way so usually the County
wants this to be a clear zone. They are not just clear cutting trees.

Commissioner Shryock thought they needed to have the trail open by the school but she
wondered if they had more leeway elsewhere where they could keep some of the trees and move
the trail over or around the ta'ees.

Park and Recreation Commission/April 14, 2005
Page 8 of 10
