Mayor Gamec asked if they have a buyer's card. <br /> <br />Mr. Callender stated he turned in all the forms and that will be turned into the State. He advised <br />that in their marketing analysis and due to the configuration of Highway 47, it was determined <br />they would serve the west side of Highway 47 and those who use the strip mall. <br /> <br />Mr. Brottlund stated Mark and Teresa Callender have done a good job studying the market and <br />preparing the business plan. He advised that one of the local banks is backing them in this <br />endeavor. He stated they will market to a different segment of the population than Rum River <br />Wine and Spirits. Mr. Brottlund stated the Calendars have a signed lease and completed <br />background checks. He stated they all did some research on the Statutes and strongly feel they <br />should be granted a license. Mr. Brottlund stated they do not disagree with the need to study the <br />issues raised but today the Council needs to deal with the ordinances in place. Mr. Brottlund <br />suggested that the comments made by the other liquor business owners are motivated by the <br />competition issue. <br /> <br />Ms. Low stated that her comments are not motivated on the basis of competition but are based on <br />concern for the need for zoning ordinances to protect the community. She stated this is an issue <br />that will impact the community and offered her assistance to do more studying. Ms. Low stated <br />she has no problem with the Council issuing this liquor license, she just wants the issue studied. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Kurak, to close the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Kurak, Anderson, <br />and Hendriksen. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />The public hearing closed at 7:43 p.m. <br /> <br />Council Business <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec called the regular City Council meeting back to order at 7:43 p.m. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated this may be a good time, if there is a group of interested <br />citizens, to look into this issue. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked why the number restriction was eliminated from the ordinance. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich stated he is not sure. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated he feels this application should not be denied to conduct a study, however, <br />he believes that Councilmember Anderson raised a valid question on the tax payment issue. <br /> <br />City Council/March 13, 2001 <br /> Page 9 of 31 <br /> <br /> <br />
