^ <br /> NACRAN ISEY <br /> Taw_ <br /> ^ <br /> The City uses the updated comprehensive sewer and water study's as a tool to address immediate sewer <br /> and water extension requests, as well as, long-term development plans within the City. <br /> Trunk Sanitary Sewer Extension,City of Ramsey,Minnesota <br /> Contact:Brian Olson,Director of Public Works <br /> Faced with petitions from property owners for the extension of trunk sanitary sewer,the City of Ramsey <br /> retained Bolton &Menk, in 2002 to prepare several alignment alternatives for evaluation and public <br /> ^ comment. Once the alignment evaluation was completed and the City selected a preferred alignment, <br /> Bolton&Menk was again retained, in 2004 for the detailed design of approximately 14,774 linear feet <br /> (2.8. miles)of sanitary sewer, which ranged in size between 8-inch forcemain and 30-inches gravity sewer <br /> ,.� and approximately 45,300 linear feet(8.6 miles)of watermain. <br /> The sewer alignment,which follows a wetland complex,presented the Bolton &Menk design team with <br /> many unique challenges including cleaning of approximately 3.5 miles of county ditch to facilitate <br /> 1 dewatering,wetland avoidance and mitigation, lift station construction, and the purchase of easements <br /> from approximately 50 property owners. <br /> In order to construct the sewer at the lowest cost and with the least amount of disruption to residential <br /> areas,wetland impacts were unavoidable. Therefore, Bolton&Menk worked closely with the City,the <br /> DNR,the Board of Water and Soil Resources(BWSR)and the local Watershed Management Organization <br /> to discuss ways of minimizing the impacts to wetlands and other environmentally sensitive areas. <br /> Where impacts were unavoidable,trench dams were constructed to prevent unintentional draining of water <br /> from the wetlands. In addition, soil borings were used to check for horizontal confining layers, which <br /> might create a perched water table,which could be penetrated by the trench and drained. At the <br /> completion of construction native wetland vegetation was re-established.
