Mi'. l lLtmer stated the problem of remodeling an existing building is the cost is usually around <br />(me llundred and fifty percent more than to build a new one. <br /> <br />Mr. I.ind stated they did bring this up at a club meeting before presenting it to the Park Board and <br />thc members would like to see this project done before any other project is done in the City in <br />t-cgards to the donation. He noted that the members overwhelmingly agreed only on this project. <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood asked if the building would be $239,000 for costs. <br /> <br />Mr. ! [umer stated that was excluding architect fees. They estimate the total cost to be $260,000 <br />and the I.ions would donate approximately seventy percent upfront. <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Riverblood suggested the Commission make a formal recommendation to the City <br />Council tbr this item. <br /> <br />Mt'. [.[umer indicated if this is approved and gets built, the Lions would like to contribute to all <br />the new parks as far as structures. <br /> <br />Motio,] by Commissioner Ostrum, seconded by Commissioner Olds, to recommend approval of a <br />new 2tci lity at Central Park with a donation from the Lions Club for it and any future funds to be <br />allocated For the cost of the building until paid for. <br /> <br />Mellon carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Johns, Commissioners Ostrum, Olds, LaMere, <br />[.chman, Pontius and Shryock. Voting No: None. Absent: None. <br /> <br />Mt'. Strafer asked if this is approved by the City Council, what the timing would be on this. <br /> <br />(;hairpcrson Johns asked how much involvement the Lions Club can have in this project. <br />Tl~e Lions indicated they would like to help out as much as they can. <br /> <br />was indicated the Lions would need to place bids if they wanted to help construct the building <br />order' lo be fair. <br /> <br />I'arks/Ulilities Supervisor Riverblood thought the athletic associations should be consulted on <br />lb is because of the option of having a concession stand with running water and sewer. <br /> <br />Commissioner Olds remembered at the last meeting the Lions indicated they could rough in the <br />scxver and water so when it comes up to the park the building would be ready for it. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns did not remember this being discussed except the Lions telling them it would <br />bc too expensive to run sewer and water to the building. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns indicated she would rather improve on the existing building but did not want <br />i o lose anything.
