Mayor Gamec stated that cost is a factor.

Discussion ensued relating to some things that could be done with the lobby. One of the items
talked about was putting the counter crosswise and expanding the secretary's area.

Councilmember Zimmerman agreed that Council and staff should look at the cost of renovating
what we have. There might be a new City Hall in the future, but not now.

Mayor Gamec asked what could be solved quickly.

Mr. Kroos stated that you are talking about another Band-Aid. You can spend money to make
more space but he is not sure that is money well spent.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that we talked about wanting to do nice things for the
employees and talking about a better lunchroom - now you don't want that.

Mr. I<h-oos commented that the difference is short term and long term review. If we are talking
about a building by 2008, then he is in favor of that. We only need to pick up about 1,000 square
feet of space between now and 2006.

Mayor Gamec talked about nicer Council Chambers. He feels a facility is important - he did not
care about a date - dollars and cents make a difference.

Councilmember Kurak stated we need figures to make a decision. What would a new City Hall
cost eight years from now and would it be built in a town center.

Councihnember Hendriksen stated he thinks we are talking about $100,000.

Another gentleman, representing E & V (?), stated you are asking us to put dollar amounts in for
the cost to remodel existing space. We are bringing space needs to you because we thought
that's what Council wanted.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated he feels it looks like an intent to fluff these numbers up.
Everything is predicted on false assumptions,

Mayor Gamec stated he would like to see some figures.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that the leaking ceilings should not be thrown into the
remodeling costs. He reiterated if we are talking about building onto City Hall somewhere in the
2008 period, you have my whole support. He added that the improvements he is talking about
are not more than 1,000 feet of additional space.

Mayor Gamec stated he didn't know who was right, he needs to see some figures.

The lady representing E & V (?) stated what they are presenting is the space needs. Now we
would like to look at your existing space and put together dollar amounts to renovate and/or add

City Council Work Session/July 5, 2001
