June 17, 2005
East Town Center Park Plan Review

The promenade planting and bench layout is symmetrical and visually appealing. It does not
allow for easy conversation between benches. Please consider adjusting the layout as
discussed at our meeting on Wednesday June 15. Please consider adding a dog watering
station to the drinking fountain. The city recently installed one in a park and it is a popular
attraction.

Please review the pedestrian bridge deck design and provide information on the
improvements necessary to allow passage of small park maintenance vehicles performing
activities such as trash collection, sweeping or snow removal.

Please provide a blank 6" conduit with large radius bends from the electrical cabinet to the
amphitheater stage. The purpose would be for routing cables during performances.

Please consider the following changes to the landscaping plans:

· Barberry 'Emerald Carousel' should not be used, this is a hybrid of a species that we
prohibit. Consider using White Snowberry (Symphoricarpos albus) or Western Snowberry
(Symphoricarpos occidentalis).
· Replace red cedars with white cedars. Red cedars are just a very common tree whereas
white cedar a little more unique and probably considered a nicer tree by many.
· Replace Canada Red Cherry, which is very susceptible to black knot, with Shubert Choke
Cherry (Prunus virginiana 'Schubert')
· American Lindens are very susceptible to deicing salts, would recommend using
something like DED resistant American Elm
· White Oaks are more appropriate for dry sites, if the area around the 'charter school
wetland" will flood annually, would recommend using sWamp white oak instead
· Remove Little Bluestem from the plan set as discussed at our meeting on Wednesday.

-303-
