CASE #3 Consider Citizen Petition for Street Name Change

Background:

On May 10, 2005 staff received a petition from seven of the eight residential properties'
fronting on Old County Road 5 to have the street sign changed to Old Nowthen Boulevard.
These residents are utilizing Nowthen Boulevard as their street address which is also the
street address listed in the Anoka County data base. The residents feel the name change
would assist in eliminating confusion over their location. This street was turned over to
the City when County Rd 5 was realigned in 1969. Since this road is described as either
County Road 5 (the official county designation) or Nowthen Boulevard (the common name
associated with the street by the City). Since either name appears to be appropriate the
change in signage would not require an official name change. In effect the current
residences would not have a change in address.

Neither the Police nor the Fire Chief object to the proposed change in signage. However,
should the sign change be authorized, 911 should be notified as a precaution. The cost
involved would consist of replacement of three sign blades at an estimated cost of $360.
Staff recommends changing the street signs as petitioned by the residents and that 91 I.
officials be notified of the change. The approval would be contingent on review by the
City Attorney.

Motion to recommend to City Council that the street signs be changed as petitioned by the
residents and that 911 officials be notified of the change contingent on review by the City
Attorney.

Action:

Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

CASE #4 Consider the Acquisition of Property for Park and Trail Purposes

This case was ratified at the June 28, 2005, city Council meeting.

CASE #5 Update on TH 47 Trail Installation

Background:

Staff reviewed that the completion of a pedestrian trail along the west side of TH 47 has
been identified as a high priority project to complete the link between Alpine drive and
Elmcrest Park. The following are issues that have affected the' progress of this trail
construction.

· The final land parcel (Mortenson) necessary to complete this link now appears will
be available in .early July.

-357-
