By: CONSIDER AUTHORIZING PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS AND BIDDING FOR NEW PARK SHELTER AT CENTRAL PARK ! lcidi A. Nelson, Asst. City Administrator & Dean Kapler, PW Director/Fire Chief Background: Over the past several months, staff has been meeting with representatives of the Ramsey Lions Club regarding their desire to replace the existing Park Shelter at Central Park. The Ramsey Lions have donated $185,000.00 towards the cost of the project. Hakanson Anderson & Associates has graciously donated the civil engineering work associated with the project. As approved at the regular meeting of' June 28~h, 2005, staff and representatives from the Ramsey Lions have been working with architects from the firm of Adkins Association Inc. on developing the plans, specifications and bid package lbr the project. Adkins Association Inc. Architects and A1 Hurner, Ramsey Lion's member, donated thc schematic design work for the project. A huge debt of gratitude is owed to the Ramsey Lions, i takanason Anderson and A1 Humer for their contributions to making this project a reality. This new shelter will be a great asset to the community by providing additional covered picnic space t'or community groups and families, additional concession space for athletic groups and the Lions, as well as hosting events such as the Community Picnic, music in the park events, and numerous other events throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. Thc architectural drawings, cost estimate and schedule for the project are attached for Council review. It should be noted that the drawings show permanent restrooms connected to the facility; an alternate will be included in the bid package for constructing the exterior walls and rough-ins for the future restrooms. At such time that sewer and water is available to the site, the interior finish of the restrooms could be completed. Depending on the outcome of the bid process, Council may wish to elect to build the exterior walls and rough-ins or if cost saving measures are necessary, the exterior and interior rcstroom construction could be completed in the future knowing that the facility has been designed with that future space in mind. The architect's estimate for the total project cost is $254,842.00. Per Council direction on July xx, the additional funding required to complete the project will be funded via the City's Charitable Gambling }:und. Thc bid package will be ready for publication by Friday, August 12th with an anticipated 3-week bid pcriod. Construction should commence in early -mid September; it is anticipated that the project will be completed by early winter, with final grade and landscaping occurring in early spring of 2006. The new Park Shelter will be ready for use in spring 2006. A1 Hurner with Adkins Association Inc. as well as representatives fYom the Ramsey Lions will be present for the meeting. Staff Recommendation: Authorize Plans and Specifications and Bidding for the new Park Shelter at Central Park.
