3.3 Laboratory Testing
Laboratory moisture content and precept passing the #200 sieve (P-200) content tests were
performed on selected samples recovered from the soil borings. Table 3 below summarizes
the results of the laboratory tests. Results of the laboratory tests are also shown on the boring
log adjacent to the sample tested.
Table 3. These soils will generally be Type C soils under
Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
The borings also encountered clayey sand and silty clay that mostly had a soft consistency.
For that reason, the clayey sand and silty clay will also generally be Type C soils under
OASHA guidelines.
An OSHA -approved qualified person should review the soil classification in the field.
Excavations must comply with the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR, Part 1926, Subpart P,
"Excavations and Trenches." This document states excavation safety is the responsibility of
the contractor. The project specifications should reference these OSHA requirements.
5
