Mr. l}uchcrt noted that it is.

ri'roy I Iolkestad, 8100 173rd Avenue, asked if any special insurance is going to be required.

(ihairperson Nixt stated that the City is not requiring any particular coverage, but he would
expect that Mr. Stevenson will have the appropriate coverage for injury or damage.

Mr. I loldcstad stated he is not against dogs, they just have a good neighborhood and he wants to
keep it that way.

15'lc Joslin, 17521 Iguana Street, stated he is confused about what the problem is, and why this
case is here.

Assistant Community Development Director Frolik indicated that the concern is that this is
beyond having a private pet at a residence; it is a commercial business in a residential area.

Sharon l'ctcrson, 17400 Givens, stated she has been friends with the Stevenson's for 21 years.
She indicated that she is here in support of this request, and has never had any problems with the
dogs Mr. Stevenson has trained. She stated he is great with them, and very respectful of the
times hc works with the dogs, and she has never had issues with dogs barking. She indicated that
she hopes the Planning Commission will approve this permit.

Jori Joslin, 17521 Iguana Street, she stated she would be hard pressed to find a house without a
dog in the neighborhood. She stated she never hears barking from that direction. She indicated
INs is secondary income for Mr. Stevenson, and she thinks that making him stop training at 6
p.m. is too restrictive.

Mt'. Stevenson stated he has no problem with the 6 p.m. cut-off. He indicated he is a very easy-
going person. He advised that he does basic obedience training, and the dogs are kept on a leash
lbr one month, and then they go to an electronic collar, which is 100% effective. He stated he
trains in a cement barn, and if a dog barks more than once he puts an electronic collar on them
and they will stop.

Chairperson Nixt asked how the restrictions being requested will limit Mr. Stevenson's training.

Mr. Stevenson stated that the only thing that will change is the use of a starter pistol, or dummy
launcher, tlc indicated that he can bring the dogs to the hunt club when doing that type of
training.

(~hairperson Nixt asked if Mr. Stevenson would be offering training to Rotteweilers or Pit Bulls.

Mt'. Stevenson stated he does not train those types of dogs on site. He indicated if someone
requested a private lesson at his or her home, he might, but he has no interest in bringing those
types of dogs on site.

Planning Commission/August 8, 2005
