She added that there is a trail system in the <br />area that will be fully connected before winter. <br /> <br />(;ommissioncr Johnson stated that the concerns the neighbors have about parks is <br />tmdcrstandable, but the Park Commission may have suggestions. He indicated they are seeing a <br />lot ol' development here, and there is a potential for getting more land for parks. He stated if the <br />neighbors direct the Park Commission's attention to the issue, they may be able to provide a park <br />a litlle closer than a mile away. <br /> <br />Mr. Fries <br />indicated <br />gallncr. <br /> <br />stated that it just seems like the focus is on development and nothing else. He <br />the City encourages people to come in, but does not focus on community areas to <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt stated that he moved into the city in 1995, and has had a lot of developments in <br />his backyard. Hc indicated that given the developments they have looked at tonight, they will <br />finally have some parks and connections to parks that the city has never had before. <br /> <br />Mr. l"ries stated he understands that, but it seems like they are all larger regional parks, and not <br />smaller neighborhood parks. He indicated that the people who live there are pretty interested in <br />this, and hc does not think it is over. <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt advised him that he could approach the City Council and the Park and <br />Recreation Commission. <br /> <br />C, ommissioncr Van Scoy asked if the parking spaces in the park area are dedicated to the park. <br /> <br />Assistant Cotnmunity Development Director Frolik indicated they are not dedicated, noting that <br />thc green areas are not public parks; just open space for the development. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Johnson, seconded by Chairperson Nixt to close the public hearing at <br />i0:15 p.m. <br /> <br />Molion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Nixt, Commissioners Johnson, Levine, Shepherd, and <br />Van Sct~y. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Brauer and Watson. <br /> <br />Commission Business <br /> <br />(:tm~m issioner Johnson asked if the applicant had any concerns with the Staff Review Letter. <br /> <br />The applicant noted that because of the changes, there are changes to the Park Dedication fees, <br />going to thc new fee that is higher. <br /> <br />Assistam Community Development Director Frolik advised that City Code does actually say that <br />thc amount of the park dedication fee will be the fee at the time of final plat, not preliminary plat. <br /> <br />Planning Commission/August 8, 2005 <br /> Page 22 of 26 <br /> <br /> <br />
