Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos answered the most recent revision is April 2001. It is updated as
needed, which averages out to be yearly. It is intended to express land dedication intent and
goals. It is credible and defines what land a developer should be considering for public purposes
when planning their initial submittals.

Chairperson Cook commented that this has been a good tool. Many things on the map have
come to fruition. He also mentioned that we have always desired a park on that side of Sunfish
Lake and now the land is available. If it's on the map, it seems to happen. He suggested that the
discussion around this map is put on the agenda for the next meeting and it could be discussed
along with the proposed Central Park expansion or the trail connection to Elmcrest.

Commissioner Johns asked if the Commissioners should look at this with an eye towards what is
existing.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos said he would bring proposed changes to the table.

Chairperson Cook stated the Town Center will have green space in it and will have recreational
features. That will need to be watched to see how it develops and how it affects the other parks
in the area.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos reminded the Commission that the Town Center is just an idea at
this point. Possibly the plans to this point can be summarized at the next meeting. He said that
no action is required at this meeting. He advised the Commission members to individually study
the map. He said he would like to bring the map up to date by spring.

Case #5:

Initiate Concept Planning for the Proposed Recreation Area on the West Side
of Sunfish Lake

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos stated that the City has acquired the land on the west side of
Sunfish Lake Boulevard. It may or may not necessarily all be park. Some parts will certainly
have the highest and best use as a park. He passed out maps of the area. He advised the
Commission members to begin to think about the park development priorities for the use of the
land.

Chairperson Cook mentioned this could be a good trailhead. He said he thought is was important
that the Commission take a proactive approach to this. Now that the City has the land, there will
be a number of different groups in and outside the government of the city that will have differing
ideas.

Commissioner Johns asked if it was boatable.

Commissioner Olds replied that canoes or paddleboats could use it. It is probably not fishable.

Chairperson Cook mentioned if there is some kind of aeration in the winter, it could be stocked.
It could provide fishing for youth.

Park and Recreation Commission/November 15, 2001
Page 11 of 12
