Voting Yes: Councitmembers Zi~e~, .~derson, Hen~ks~n, and <br /> <br />Principal City Engineer Olson stated that the term "Saw and seal" refers to the practice of <br />sawing and sealing .joints [n pavement to control transverse cracking. ~ 1996, uhe State of <br />Minnesota issued a report on the use of the "saw and seal" procedure to accomplish this task. <br />The. purpose of this case was to discuss the possibility, of taking a proactive approach to .the <br />transverse cracking that occurs on City streets and discuss the options to see if tlfis practice <br />should be considered for future projects. The cost to saw and sea/ according to 'the <br />recommendation guidelines fi.om MrflD©T amounts to about $!0,000 per mile and 3;500 per <br />intersection. This is based on a 30 foot separation between joints. Two candidate projects that <br />provide some time to discuss.this activity are ~e new section of Sunwood Drive between County <br />Road 116 and Sunfish Lake Boulevard as well as the new s ection o f'Y ~aki.ma Street t hat w as <br />installed in the Highlands at 7'dyer Park subdivision. Su. nwood Drive N'W is a Municipal State <br />Aid route with heavy traffic expected. Yakima Street between Alpine Drive and 155th.Lane Nh,V <br />is a local residential road with moderate traffic and 155th Lane N'W between Yakima Street NW <br />and the cul-de-sac is a low volume local residential road. The "saw and seal" of the bitmminous <br />on Sunwood Drive NW could be done suffer the final layer o£bituminous is installed and could be <br />done at a cost of -$5,500.
