Mr. Bushar replied that he did not have the numbers available, explaining that it will depend on
the location of the tower, the soil conditions and the height of the tower.

Mr. Kohler, AEC Engineering, reviewed the pros and cons of the different styles of tanks.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that he would not be inclined to chose a multi-legged tower
which was also the consensus of the Committee.

City Engineer Jankowski inquired if the City bids out two tanks to different contractors how
would they determine to award the bid.

Mr. Busher replied that each contractor specializes in different types of water towers. He
suggested receiving three prices on the composite tower and then one price for the hydropiller
and then review the bids after they are received.

City Engineer Jankowski replied that he is concerned the City will be required to accept the
lowest bid.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that AEC Engineering should focus on the hydropillar tower
or the composite. He questioned the stability of the single pedestal tower.

Mr. Kohler replied that the single pedestal towers do require more maintenance, but are a stable
tower for a 1.5 million-gallon tank.

The Committee discussed at length the maintenance that is needed on a single pedestal tower.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that he would like to know what the cost differences are
between the two options and some time of long term projection in regards to maintenance of the
two towers.

Mr. Kohler reviewed the different logo design possibilities of the tower, noting that as part of the
bidding process the City will need to submit a logo and colors they are requesting.

Mr. Busher stated that once the site is surveyed and the soil is analyzed they will be able to put
together rough costs.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that for rough estimates it can be assumed that there may be
two logos visible on each side with large letters, and possibly three colors.

City Engineer Jankowski reviewed the proposed project schedule and inquired as to what the
additional cost might be for early completion.

Mr. Busher replied that they would not know until the bids are let.

Public Works Committee/February 15, 2000
