City Administrator Norman stated October 10~ was selected because the cities budget on a <br />calendar year. He noted this would allow a city to budget for the next year. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen asked about the cost. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman responded all of the cities have to agree before any money is put into <br />it. He stated the City of Ramsey would put in $2,000 initially and the City of Coon Rapids <br />would put in $6,000. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson asked about the Coon Rapids amount. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman responded it is based on the total population and amount of the road <br />located in a particular city. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson asked about Andover. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman responded the City of Andover has agreed to put in $2,000 <br />recognizing that although the road is not located in its city, the residents use it. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated he is concerned about what happened with the Northstar <br />Corridor. He noted it could happen again with the City of Ramsey and Elk River versus the City <br />of Coon Rapids. He added the City of Coon Rapids has more of a freeway with interchanges. <br />He stated his concerns about the conflicting viewpoints. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated that he thinks that not participating could jeopardize the bridge crossing. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman asked what are the chances for a bridge. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec responded the chances are good. <br /> <br />City Administrator Norman stated MNDOT would not fund any improvements without a <br />corridor study. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated he thinks it needs to be easy to protect a host city from <br />unwanted improvements. He noted the Council needs to make sure it's paying for things the <br />City wants to happen. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated if the Council wants a say in the decisions, the City must be a <br />member. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated the City needs to have a big "oar." <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec stated without membership the bridge would not happen. <br /> <br />City Council/May 23, 2000 <br /> Page 21 of 36 <br /> <br /> <br />
