The first involved the issue of placement of sidewalk along Sunwood
Drive, which was discussed earlier by the Council as Case lb. The second issue involved the
berm along the east side of T.H. #47. Staff reported that several residents along Waco Street
approached staff at the informational meeting and noted that the highway will be raised which
will result in the highway becoming even with the top of the existing berm. Staff investigated
and reported that it would be possible to raise the berm two to four feet. About $5,000 was
estimated as being the cost of this work. The Committee recommended the Council approve the
additional Change Order to facilitate this modification to the project.

Mayor Gamec suggested having the Cub Scouts plant trees in the area.

Motion by Councilmember Hendriksen, seconded by Councilmember Conn°lly, to authorize the
$5,000 to raise the berm two to four feet.

Further discussion: Councilmember Connolly stated that during the Public Works Committee
meeting, there was discussion about giving the residents the choice of raising the berm or adding
additional shrubbery. City Engineer Jankowski replied that' additional planting materials are
already included as part of the project.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Hendriksen, Connolly, Anderson,
and Zilnmerman. Voting No: None.

City Engineer Jankowski stated that the third item discussed involved the intersection of 142'~a
Avenue and T.H. #47. It was reported that the current plans for this intersection involve turn
bays with full turning movements. Previous discussions with the Committee and Council led to
the conclusion that it would be desirable to either have this intersection signalized or constructed
with medians which would eliminate the left turning movements from 142''a' Avenue onto T.H.
#47. Presently, warrants have not been met for the signalization of this intersection, and
placement of median islands at this time would result .in the elimination of movements which
could aid in the warrant study for signalization.
