COMMITTEE BUSINESS

Case gl: Boards and Commissions

Human Resources Manager Reed explained that Bob Johnson resigned from the Planning
Commission effective when an appointment can be made, but no later than March 31. She
explained that the City currently has 8 to 10 applicants interested in serving on the Planning
Commission from the most recent recruitment process.

Councilmember Cook recommended that the Personnel Committee along with the Chair and
Vice Chair of the Planning Commission review the scores from the last set of interviews, since it
has only been a couple of months rather than going through the whole interview process again.

Councilmember Olson agreed.

Councilmember Pear~on also agreed. He felt it was a good way to speed up the process.

City Administrator Norman noted that there was one candidate that was not able to be
interviewed, during the last interview process.

Councilmember Cook replied that that applicant was given several opportunities.

City Administrator Norman stated that they could give him one more opportunity to interview.

Councilmember Cook replied that if they were to allow one person to interview then they should
re-interview all of the candidates. He preferred that they review the previous candidate scores
from the last interview process to determine if they already have a qualified candidate before
going through the interview process again.

Human Resources Manager Reed explained that there would be only two individuals from the
last interview process to consider.

Councilmember Cook replied that it would be his preference to review those two candidates first
and then deicide if they want to go through the reapplication process.

Human Resources Manager Reed suggested that out of those two applicants there was probably
only one candidate they would want to consider for the appointment. That being said, the City
has received seven or eight applicants since the last round of interviews indicated that the
Planning Commission was their first choice. She recommended that those seven or eight
applicants be interviewed.

Councilmember Pearson inquired as to how soon they could complete the interview process.

Human Resources Manager Reed replied that she could get the interviews scheduled for next
week.

Personnel Committee / February 28, 2006
-26-
