He indicated this <br />project will need to be broken down into logical phases. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns commended staff on their work on this kiosk. She inquired if the bituminous <br />that is being resurfaced will include painted lines. <br /> <br />Civil Engineer II Linton replied painted lines are included in the contract. <br /> <br />Case #3: Recommend Park Names for Ramsey Town Center Parks <br /> <br />Civil Engineer II Linton reviewed that the Park and Recreation Commission reviewed a request <br />last year to name the drive into Elmcrest Park in honor of volunteers in the community. This <br />request generated a larger discussion on naming policies. The topic was recommended for a <br />Council work session, but has not been discussed. The completion of the Municipal Center, <br />housing units and the operation of the PACT Charter School are driving the need for park names. <br />Names for the parks will be forwarded to the City Council for review and approval. The naming <br />policy discussion may move to the foreground as a result of this action. <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood suggested the Commission consider hosting a park naming <br />contest to the public. The event could be partnered with a business such as Cobom's to provide <br />gift certificates for the winner. This would also further the public's awareness of Town Center. <br />A short essay could be included to provide an explanation behind the proposed names. <br /> <br />Chairperson Johns suggested the contest be publicized in the Ramsey Resident. <br /> <br />Commissioner Olds suggested the Environmental Expo be utilized as a starting point to peak the <br />interest of the residents. <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood advised the contest suggestion should be run through the <br />City Council for authorization to organize the project. <br /> <br />The consensus of the Commission was to direct staff to bring forward the suggestion of a park <br />naming contest to the City Council at a work session. <br /> <br />Commissioner Shryock inquired if the Park and Recreation Commission will review and narrow <br />down the proposed names <br /> <br />Parks/Utilities Supervisor Riverblood replied the Commission would be the best entity suited to <br />sort out the recommendations. <br /> <br />Park and Recreation Commission/April 13, 2006 <br /> Page 4 of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
