apparat[zs by two feet for a total of six feet; we will have about nine feet between the vehicles.
We had a unisex shower - they suggested we were better off to go with separate showers. We
thought it was appropriate to keep part of this building open for the public use but to have the
ability to lock some areas away from the public so we will have a public area and a non-public
area. We have one conference room that will seat 12 people and a smaller one. From our
original proposal, we are looking at about 10,000. We narrowed it down about 600 feet and are
not losing any effective space. The upper floor - If we use it for anything other than equipment
we would have to have an elevator and that would add about $170,000 onto our costs. Chief
Kapler stated that the plans comply with ADA requirements. The only thing not wheelchair
accessible would be the second floor.

Mayor Gamec asked where the cots would be should an emergency arise and some of the
Department has to stay at the station.

Chief Kapler stated that we could utilize most any space for that in the case of an emergency.

Jim Way asked about water.

Chief Kapler stated that we would rough it in to be able to accept sewer and water. We talked
about putting in a high volume well and/or tank. We will deal with going to #116 for now - that
is the most inexpensive way to go. Northfork has an irrigation well and they are okay with us
putting a fill site on the golf course.

A1 Pearson inquired how long it takes to fill a tanker to which Chief Kapler replied 1 and ½
minutes to fill a 3,000 gallon tanker.

Mayor Gamec asked about room for expansion - for a trailer and boat for water rescue, for
example.

Chief Kapler stated that another bay could be added to the north. This allows for an expansion if
necessary.

Al Pearson asked how far back from Armstrong is the building to which Chief Kapler responded
the minimum setback is about 100 feet.

Mayor Gamec asked about maintenance to which Chief Kapler stated we want to make it as easy
as possible. On this project, as a group, we will take on the planting ourselves. That will
eliminate about $150,000.

Jim Way asked what happens when this station is done - do you vacate your present area.

Chief Kapler stated that the facility here on the City Hall campus is still considered the nucleus.
Most of the training will probably take place at the new fire station.

Jim Way mentioned the need for space to expand in City Hall and asked if the current station
space could be utilized.

Public Safety Board - September 9, 1999
