Chief Kapler informed the Board that the Fire Department would have two, full operating
stations. If it were for short term, we could probably work something out.

Chief Kapler referred to the plans. He noted the area in the lower left comer of the front page
and pointed out that these would be the offices - there would be work stations and there would
be space available for a Police Officer also.

Discussion ensued relating to an alarm system. Jim Way stated that the Police Department got a
good deal on theirs.

Chief Kapler presented a color rendering of the building.

Jim Way commented that there may be too much light from the windows to work comfortably.
Chief Kapler agreed that may be something to look at.

Chief Kapler reported to the Board that he would like to bring the basic design of Fire Station #2
to the City Council on Tuesday.

Mayor Gamec stated that the only thing he would question is too much light. He suggested
maybe flip-flopping offices and the conference room.

Chief Kapler stated that possibly they would not have floor to ceiling windows.

Jim Way stated that with all the glass proposed, you may be opening yourself up for a lot of
vandalism. How easy or hard are they to replace.

Chief Kapler stated that maybe they would have one row of windows.

Mayor Gamec stated that the design is attractive.

Jim Way asked about a drive through for the big tracks.

Chief Kapler responded that we have training on backing up.

Dave Lewandowski added that the Department has drills on backing up so it is not an issue.

A1 Pearson inquired how wide the doors are.

ChiefKapler stated they are 16 feet - the ones at City Hall downstairs are 12 feet. He added that
there will be metal crates for gear to allow air to circulate and promote faster drying.

A1 Pearson asked how they would re-do the glass.

Public Safety Board - September 9, 1999
