Mr. Kalstabakken suggested that the Committee make a decision on which side of Sunwood
Drive the trail will be placed first.

Councilmember Connolly stated that it makes sense to have the trail on the south side of
Sunwood Drive since the park is located on that side.

City Engineer Jankowski stated the positives for placing the trail on the south side of Sunwood
Drive would be that Solstice Park is on the south side and the proposed ACAP project would be
on the south side. Also there is one drive-way on the north side and none on the south side. The
negatives to the trail on the south side of Sunwood Drive would be the existing trail west of
Nowthen Boulevard is on the north side and future development might increase driveways on the
south side.

Mrs. Kalstabakken responded that the proposed ACAP development will be an entrance to the
townhomes not residential driveways.

Councilmember Zimmerman questioned if there was any recommendation on the placement of
crosswalks.

Mrs. Kalstabakken stated that crosswalks will be needed regardless of which side of the road the
trail is installed. She requested that the Councilmember visit their home to visually see the area.

Councilmember Zimmerman stated the purpose of the crosswalk is to get children across the
street and want to make the road as safe as possible.

Ms. Kalstabakken suggested the idea of installing a stop sign at Erkium Street.

Kathy Smith, 14790 Erkium Street Northwest Ramsey, stated that she agreed that a stop sign is
needed at Erkium because there are several children that have to cross Sunwood Drive to catch
there school bus.

City Engineer Jankowski explained that any plans they submit would not be approved if it
included the installation of a stop sign, but noted that the City could install a stop sign once the
project was completed.

Lyndon Roschen, 14725 Fluorine Street Northwest Ramsey, stated that they are making
decisions for a residential area and feels that the City and the Committee should be respectful to
what the residents of the area want. Especially because it is a project that none of the residents
are in favor of and the number one concern should be safety.

Mrs. Kalstabakken noted that there are already a large amount of accidents in the area and it will
get a lot worse when the road is completed.

Public Works Committee/August 31, 1999
