Case #13: Report from the Public Safety Board

Director of Public Works Kapler reported that the Public Safety Board met on Thursday,
March 11, 1999, and discussed the site location of the new fire station. That will be
further discussed under the report from the Finance Committee. The Public Safety Board
also received and discussed the specifications for the new fire engine, and recommended
Council authorize those specifications and solicit bids from manufacturers.

Motion by Couneilmember Hendriksen and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to
authorize specifications of the new fire engine and solicit bids from manufacturers.

Motion carded. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Hendriksen, Zimmerman,
Anderson and Haas Steffen. Voting No: None.

Mr. Kapler reported that the Public Safety Board discussed to what extent they should be
involved with the construction project of the new fire station. Consensus was that they be
provided with periodic updates of progress. They do not want to be intimately involved
with the process.

Case #14: Report from the Public Works Committee

#2: Review 1999 Street Maintenance Program Issues:

City Engineer Jankowski stated that at the March 9 public heating on the 1999 Street
Maintenance Program, a resident of the Rivenwick subdivision had suggested delaying
the sealcoat project (I.P. #99-03) for one year to allow time for undeveloped properties to
construct homes. This resident was present at the Public Works Committee meeting and
indicated that after the public heating she had consulted with neighborhood residents
regarding the issue. She indicated that neighbors were not strongly opposed to doing the
project this year, and even had some concerns about delaying the project. The
Committee made a motion to retain this project in the program. Mr. Jankowski explained
that four residents of the Traprock subdivision were also present and discussed technical
concerns about Improvement Project #99-04. He stated that he would be reviewing their
concerns this week, Thursday. Improvement Project #99-07 will be reviewed also. With
regard to #99-08, drainage on Juniper Ridge Drive, that will be discussed at the next
Public Works Committee. There is no Council action necessary.

#3: Requests for Traffic Calming:

Mr. Jankowski reported that there has been requests for traffic calming. These will be
dealt with at the April meeting. With regard to the request for closure of 158th Avenue
between Traprock and Variolite Streets - the Public Works Committee was opposed to
the closure and felt that it should not be considered further.

City Council/March 23, 1999
Page 19 of
