Councilmember Hendriksen explained that the development was built with less then typical size
streets and the members of the association felt that people were using the private roads as a cross-
through at high rates of speed to avoid stop signs. The Public Works Committee suggested
posting private drive signs at the two entrances.

Motion by Councilmember Hendriksen, seconded by Councilmember Connolly, for the Public
Works Department to install the "private drive" signs at Sunfish Pond Townhomes.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Hendriksen, Connolly, Anderson,
and Zimmerman. Voting No: None.

2) Request for Stop Signs

The Committee tabled action until the September meeting.

Councilmember Connolly explained that she viewed the intersection of 137th Avenue and Garnet
Street and the analysis of the intersection that was given during the Public Works Committee
meeting was correct. She stated that she was not sure if she agreed with installing stop signs at
all the requested areas, but that the one intersection does have a stop sign and she would be in
support of a two-way or a four-way at that intersection

Mayor Gamec stated that he has heard some concern from residents in regards to school buses
running stop signs and noted that some cities are sending out letters to their bus companies and
he asked if the City of Ramsey should do the same.

Councilmember Anderson stated that since this is the time of year that bus companies are
training their drivers, it would be a good time to notify the companies of the problem.

Mayor Gamec inquired if Police Chief Gustafson had any contact with the bus companies.

Police Chief Gustafson replied that he will contact them.

Councilmember Hendriksen suggested that if the Police Department contacts the bus companies
informing them that they will be strongly enforcing stop signs, then the problem will be reduced.

Police Chief Gustafson explained that, to his knowledge, the Police Department has not received
any complaints of busses running stop signs, but assured the Council that if the bus companies
were made aware of the problem they would put a stop to it.

3) Sunwood Drive Plans and Specifications

The Committee requested that the City Engineer schedule a neighborhood meeting for August
31, 1999.

City Council/August 24, 1999
