Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Connolly, Zimmerman,
Anderson, and Hendriksen. Voting No: None.

2) Part-Time Public Works Mechanic Position

Councilmember Hendriksen stated that during the last Council meeting, Councilmember
Connolly requested that Director of Public Works Kapler look into hiring a local business that
would come and do the Mn/Dot inspections on the vehicles.

Director of Public Works Kapler replied that he was forwarded the information from
Councilmember Connolly in regards to the company, which could be considered as an option,
but hiring a part-time mechanic would also allow for routine maintenance to be performed on the
vehicles on site.

Councilmember Connolly questioned if the position had been advertised.

Administrative Services Manager Pruitt Hottinger explained that the City is only required to
advertise positions that were originally temporary assignments. She noted that the Council could
request that the job be posted.

Mayor Gamec noted that Brian Ihnot has been on Staff for a couple of years and has done good
work for the City.

Councilmember Connolly stated that she has a problem with the City not posting job openings.

Mayor Gamec replied that he does not have a problem with hiring Brian Ihnot since he was
specially trained in the area.

Councilmember Anderson stated that this is a unique situation because Brian Ihnot has worked
for the City and has done the work that is being requested plus he has been certified for doing the
Mn/Dot inspection work.

City Council/September 14, 1999
