The six-month internship <br />salary would be budgeted from the current personnel vacancies in the Community Development <br />Department. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Connolly, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to authorize <br />Staff to hire Megan Barnett as a planning intern for a six-month period at a pay rate orS10.00 per <br />hour. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Connolly, Hendriksen, Anderson, <br />and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #7: Subsidy Agreement with In-Tech Inc. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Hendriksen, to direct the <br />City Attorney to execute the assignment and subordination of the development agreement. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Zimmerman, Hendriksen, <br />Anderson, and Connolly. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />Case #8: Adopt Resolution in Support or Anoka-Hennepin Technical College <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated that the area may lose the technical college altogether and she is <br />very concerned. She explained that the demographics of the area show that the majority of the <br />high school graduates choose to go into the world of work or to a technical school, and a <br />technical college is one of the best opportunities for assisting people to move from welfare to <br />work. Councilmember Anderson stated that she agreed with the resolution, but requested that the <br />following changes be made: <br /> <br />1. In the first whereas, change the wording to read "...served the community well since...". <br />2. After the third whereas, add another whereas stating "whereas, AHTC provides a variety of <br /> opportunities or workers to quickly acquire upgraded job skills; and". <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Anderson, seconded by Mayor Gamec to adopt Resolution #99-11- <br />209 supporting Anoka-Hennepin Technical College as amended. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Mayor Gamec noted that the City of Ramsey is the last City out of <br />approximately 23 to sign a similar resolution which was put together by Mayor Lonny McCaully <br />of Coon Rapids. He explained that there is currently a budget crunch and the college could <br />possibly be closed. Councilmember Zimmerman stated that he wants to support technical <br />colleges of this nature, but noted that it was not long ago that MnSCU wanted to take over four <br />of the City of Ramsey properties and condemn the existing businesses for expansion of the <br />existing building, and he feels that by passing the resolution, the Council would be hard pressed <br /> <br />City Council/November 9, 1999 <br /> Page 12 of 16 <br /> <br /> <br />
