Shawn Acres MINI PARK
This site is presently partially developed with some playground
equipment, benches, grill and picnic table. Its 4.3 acres are
abutting residences to the north and south, and buffered by Chameleon
Street to the west, and by a very large marsh to the east. The
park is marked by approximately 2.5 acres of dry land that slopes
gradually to the east, where approximately 1.5 acres are marsh land.
Consideration should be given to reshaping the park to accommodate
additional facilities and screening the park along the property
lines to the north and south.
Proposal
The site has minimal improvements now, and it is proposed that the
site be groomed and reshaped by possibly a terrace to the downward
sloping east half. This would aid in expanding recreational facili-
ties on the site.
H. SPECIAL USE PARK LANDS
The City of Ramsey is fortunate to own significant acerage of marsh
and wetlands. Since the present development is so spread throughout
the City, this land may seem much less important than when urbani-
zation occurs in the future. These areas are critical to preserve
as wildlife habitats, natural drainage storage areas, water recharge
sources, and as relief from man -made development. The stewardship .
of this land is an important charge, Governmental bodies must
insure that new developments do not endanger these areas and that
day -to -day they are adequately protected and maintained.
Riverwood 2 SPECIAL USE
This park is a long and narrow park of 2.7 acres, extending to the
Rum River. It has not been developed and will possibly never be
developed. The area is marked by a steep bank on the west and a
small trail winds through the middle of the two sides to approximately
halfway down to the river. Access to the park is very poor, with only
a small strip of land at the north end of the park from 177th Avenue
N.W. open to an already isolated area that does not lend itself to
development beyond the point of clearing some brush. This park could
have potential for future trails and cross country skiing and hiking
and could possibly be linked with the Rum River Central County Park.
White Pines SPECIAL USE
This site is a 7.5 acre area situated just one quarter mile south of
Brookview Park. White Pines is quite naturally beautiful. Access
is from the south end of Helium Street N.W. only.
18
