Coordination of
these improvements between MnDOT, Anoka County and the City of Ramsey is
absolutely essential and we believe it should begin soon!

. T.H. #47 Capacity Issue

The City of Ramsey understands that T.H. #47 is currently designated as an
"Historical Preservation Highway". It is the City's further understanding that no
improvements to the highway will take place north of the current improvement
project other than right and left hand turn lane improvements. With the natural river
boundaries on the south and west of the City, alternate traffic routes are limited.
Traffic studies show that north/south traffic continues to increase with population
growth in Ramsey and in the communities north of Ramsey. Because of limited
opportunities to provide an alternate new route it is apparent that the least costly
method of handling the increased traffic level is to lift the historical preservation
designation on T.H. #47 and to make major capacity improvements on it. In any
event, the City believes MnDOT should take the lead in determining an appropriate
route to handle the burgeoning inter-city and inter-county north/south traffic in the
T .H. #47 corridor.

When you have had an opportunity to review this letter with appropriate staff, please
contact me at your earliest convenience so that we may discuss resolution of these traffic
issues. Thank you for your attention.

Best regards,

CITY OF RAMSEY

James E.
