.

.

.

plane got ~ comp:l1W $100,000 worth of work just today and involves two months
of work for nw 50 emplQiees. 'Jl1ere are very few p!ople in this audience
tonight that have jobs that don't have reflections to air travel. If Gateway
were develop!d, I would build a hangar there. Don't let the Metro Airp>rts
Colrmission get their hands on arwthing. In regards to Mr. Babcock's statanent,
he did not say that Schwartzman and Sons were oonsidering a hazardous waste
facility with Sllokestacks; an airp>rt would not abide that. In ~ opinion, the
airp>rt would stop expansion of the landfill.

Ernie Larsen - l-ti neighbor and ~self built in 1970-71; there was not Gateway
airIX>rt at that time. I am the seoond lot fran the safety ~one; I am not
complaining that much but we enjoy living in Ramsey and the air};X>rt was not
their when I bought and built; I knCM there were several banes in that area
prior to the air};:ort recause I was the City Assessor during that time.

Susan Beale - 14851 SUnfish Lake Blvd. - Subnitted a ooW of a letter dated May
19, 1982 fran Air{X>rts District Office to Mr. Rodney Massey of MPCA regarding
Woodlake Sanitary Services, Inc.' s p!rmit application for expansion of the
Flying Cloud Sanitary Landfill at Eden Prairie. Disagree with the pro airp>rt
person that landfill expansion would re stopped ~ this airp>rt. Eden Prairie
asked for landfill expansion and FAA approved it, knCMing the landfill is
there.

Sharon Mager - When the General Mills property was reing considered for an
aitIX>rt, I signed the petition against it and I did not live near the site.
When does this CoImtission make it's recxmnendation to Council?

Chairman Ippel - 'Jl1is hearing will remain open for another 10 days, during
which time written cxmnents can re sul:mitted. 'Jl1is Camnission will prol:ably
oonduct a special meeting the first week in Septemrer to discuss the hearing
and p>ssible recxmnendation.

Sharon Mager - HCM much weight is given to public opinion?

Camlissioner Sieber - It is a personal decision because each member votes
according to his oonscience.

Sharon Mager - Agree with <l1airman Ippel's OOlIInents regarding Metro Council
putting things down our throats. Ci ty Council does that too. If this
CoImtission reccmnends City Council to adopt. the plan, will there be more public
hearings?

Camlissioner Sieber - E.\1erything done ~ ordinance has to have a public
hearing. 'Jl1e City would have to go with a G.O. bond to come up with $600,000
to $1,000,000; any G.O. bond goes to a referendum of the people and Council
cannot override that. If sanething other than G.O. bonding is used to finance
the project, the citizens may not have the pc1tler to stop it. 'Jl1e citizens have
the pc1tler in arw city goverIlllent to do what needs to be done if they P=lY
attention; a couple of years ago that was not true.

Mr. ftt>x - 16000 Armstrong Blvd. - Who <Des this CoImtission represent? Do you
represent the people or developnent?

August 21, 1985
