.

.

.

"3'~
C\'" "''''

Chairman Ippel - You can't say that if you are for developnent you are against
~ople because developnent benefits ~ople. I represent the City of Ramsey.
Council appointed this Ccmnission to put in time and effort to look at this
airport issue and make evaluations. Personally, nw feeling is that I think I
represent the City of Ramsey; that City is made up of a lot of individual
people and interests. '!here are people who <bn't care that their children are
rmming up and down the streets with 3-wheelers and dirt bikes; there are other
people who take offense to that; others are for and against developnent; there
are ~ple who want a balanced camnunity; and people that want a rural
camnunity. ~ decision will be based upon what I feel is going to be best for
for the most nunber of people in Ramsey in a long run.

Mr. fot>x - Appreciate this Ckmnission' s position.

. . 8'S:"
~\.Do- ~ <\_3-
Cbairman Ippel - If aqyone on this Ckmnission feels the pel!3aih~Uil'y that the
airport will fail, I hope th~ against it; if th~ feel there is the
IX>ssibility that it will be a long term benefit to the City, I ho~ they vote
for it; the same goes for City Council.
~~
Commissioner ~ - f.ti decision to accept appointment to this COOmission was
based on ~ interest in the COJIIIIunity and experience with plst airJ;X>rt issues.
'!he decision to be made in this case is not easy and weights heavily on our
consciences.

Resident - What is the dirt moving activity behind Tan '!bunb all about?

C'amnissioner Siebert - Activity behind Tan '!hunb is not related to airport
developnent; understand it is just ranoving gravel fran a gravel pit.

Resident - It <beso't make arrl difference what the people want - the
construction of this City Hall building was voted down ~ the public but it was
buil t arwway.

C'amnissioner Sieber - What the people want <bes make a difference now that we
have a charter; there was not a marter in existence when the new City Hall was
being considered. Several years ago, I screamed against an airport being
developed on General Mills property and I brought those feelings with me to
this Camtission. Slady nw attitude is changing to where I see there is an
econanic benefit to the cx:mnlmity. As a manber of this ColmIission I have to
represent the citizens when it comes time to vote; write or call me, this
C'amnission or City Colmcil within the next 10 days and let us knCM your
feelings on the issue. I will vote the way I think the majority of the people
want me to. Approximately 1% of the City's population is represented at this
public hearing; I would like to hear fran the other 99%.

Resident - Where <bes Camlissioner Siebert work and live?

Carmissioner Siebert - 11m a vice president of a developnent COJnp:l.lW and live at
7501 l5lst Lane. 'lOO often ~ople come to these meetings misinformed; these
types of meetings give comnissions a chance to let the people know what is
really hawening. We feel. that it is vital for Ramsey citizens to know the
facts so that if it goes to a referendum, th~ will know what th~ are voting

on.

AUgust 21, 1985
