K'1WN would see that the land is used <br />consistent with surrounding uses in the neighborhood. <br /> <br />Frank Hughs - Reiterated his earlier question regarding the property being <br />large enough to contain a collapse of the tcMer. <br /> <br />Mr. lJhorpe - Replied that guy wires not only support the tower; in the rare <br />event of a tower collapse, the guy wires are designed to cause the tcMer to <br />fall in a radius less than 50% of it's own height; have documentation fran <br />experts stating that the maxirnlJIl distance is likely to be about 20%-25% of the <br />tower height. Mr. 'lhorpe added that the Shoreview tower was not fully guyed at <br />the time of it's collapse. <br /> <br />Kathy Tranby - 17220 Armstrong - Stated that she doesn't want to look out her <br />patio doors and see a 1000' tower. <br /> <br />Mr. Shallbetter - 17060 Bison - Concerned with the type of lighting on the <br />tower . <br /> <br />Mr. 'lhorpe - Replied that FAA regulates lighting ra;{uiranents; K'1WN has made an <br />awlication to EM but OOesn' t know what the ra;{uirenents will be. Shoreview <br />is ra;{uired to use red lights; Arden Hills uses strobe lights during the day <br />and red lights at night. <br /> <br />Mr. Shallbetter - Stated that he is a pilot and fra;{uently uses Gateway North <br />airp:>rt; feels that the tower could be a safety hazard as far as flight <br />patterns are concerned. <br /> <br />Mr. lJhorpe - Replied that he feels canfortable in leaving that determination to <br />EM; Mr. Shallbetter can also make his concerns know to EM. <br /> <br />Mr. Shallbetter - Stated that Gateway North is privately owned and under <br />different regulations; K'lWN's tower might be considered illegal if Gateway <br />becomes a municipal facility with it's associated restrictions. <br /> <br />Mr. 'lhorpe - Stated that he has discussed the issue with the City's consultant <br />on the airport project, Mr. otto, and he stated that the tower will be outside <br />of any airport restricted areas, even if it goes to a municipal facility. <br /> <br />Chairperson Schlueter read Mr. otto's letter dated 6/18/85 regarding the tower <br />location with respect to Gateway. <br /> <br />Mr. lJhorpe - Stated that he has contacted Harold Nanis of Mn/DoT, Department of <br />Aeronautics, and he too indicated that there is nothing to prohibit that tower <br />fran it's proposed location, even if Gateway is upgraded and municipally owned. <br /> <br />Mrs. Riewe - 17412 Unicorn - Stated that she doesn't want cormnercialization in <br />her area; the tower should be confined to east of Ramsey Blvd. and Hwy. no. <br /> <br />Mike AntonS9;r:l - 17025 DriSCOll - stated that problems with improvements, fire <br />June 25, 1985 <br /> <br />Page 4 of 7 <br />
