<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />.' <br /> <br />review that area around the landfill. <br /> <br />Mrs. Larry Johnson stated that she has been told that her property is in the <br />moratorium area1 i1'XJuired if the water has been contaminated by the landfil11 <br />and stated that it is impossible to sell the property because of the landfill <br />proximity. <br /> <br />Council informed Mrs. Johnson that the moratorium does not affect her <br />property. <br /> <br />Mr. Wirz stated that the water is not yet contaminated. <br /> <br />COuncilmember Reimann stated that the City has formed a committee to study the <br />landfill issue. <br /> <br />Mrs. Johnson in;yuired if the landfill is still in operation and what the <br />cap:lcity of the landfill is. <br /> <br />Councilmember Reimann replied that the landfill is in operation and the <br />cap:lcity is controlled by height restrictions. <br /> <br />Mayor Heitman stated that the CMIlers of the landfill are in business and wish <br />to stay that W8!:l1 the only thing the City can c:b is voice it's concerns to <br />bring about legislation to cover those concerns. <br /> <br />COuncilmember Cox suggested that the Johnson's talk to the COon Rapids COuncil <br />and rS'Iuest that they stop bringing their garbage to Ramsey. <br /> <br />Mr. Wirz stated that as far as property valuation is concerned, the Johnson's <br />valuation is comp:lrable to that of other lots in the area. <br /> <br />COuncil took no action regarding property valuation for Mr. Larry Johnson. <br /> <br />Bob Muller - Mr. Muller introduced Mr. Leo LeTourneau, the new owner of the <br />Super Valu store1 stated that the taxes went fran $18,912 to $19,6001 and <br />i1'XJuired as to this year's property valuation on the store. <br /> <br />Mr. Wirz stated that the market value, $462,800, is the same as last year. <br /> <br />\r. Muller stated that he realizes the increase in taxes could be due to the <br />5% across the board increase that commercial properties received, but he was <br />anticip:lting that the 5% increase would be offset by the new commercial taxing <br />formula. <br /> <br />Mr. Leo LeTourneau stated that he previously owned a 40,000 square foot store in Rochester on 5 acres of land and the taxes were $28,000/year. In <br />comp:lrison, Mr. LeTourneau stated that he feels Ramsey's tax structure is <br />rather high. <br /> <br />Mr. Wirz stated the mill rate depends on a municip:ility's tax base and the <br />overall money that has to be raised. <br /> <br />Mr. Muller stated that snall business owners like himself are not big <br />May 13, 1985 <br /> <br />Page 4 of 9 <br />
