<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed the improvements that would occur at the Super <br />Valu store and the Northern Bank in conjunction with the developnent of the <br />strip center; that there may also be a possibility of Danner Cabinets <br />expanding; and the potential for two commercial lots in Rum River Hills to <br />develop. In lieu of these projected improvements, the Commission felt that <br />maybe all of the cormnercial property in that area should be included in the <br />tax increment development district in order to capture the additional <br />increment that would generate from improvements to existing <br />businesses. <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Ippel and seconded by Commissioner Vevea to <br />recommend City Council approval of the request to establish developnent and <br />tax increment financing districts and Mr. Muller's request for City <br />participation in the proposed developnent. Further, to direct Ms. Norris <br />to research the feasibility of including as much of the commercial property <br />in that areas as possible in the tax increment district. <br /> <br />l-btion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Greenberg, Commissioners Muller, <br />Kurak, Vevea, Gorecki, Ippel and Fults. Voting No: None. Absent: <br />Commissioners Wagner and Hardin. <br /> <br />Case #4: Discussion Regardin,g Funds For Economic DevelQpnent <br />Activities: <br /> <br />Ms. Norris noted that during the 1987 budget process, the City Council <br />allocated approximately $50,000 to be used for economic development <br />activities and another $18,000 to be used for contracted economic <br />developnent services. Ms. Norris stated that her workload is becoming too <br />great and suggested that the Commission consider using a part of the <br />$18,000 to contract for assistance in Star City Program tasks. <br /> <br />Commissioner Kurak stated that he would like to see the revolving loan fund <br />actively pursued; that it will result in visible proof and good publicity <br />of the Economic Developnent Canpany at work. <br /> <br />Commissioner Gorecki stated that he would like to see an absorption rate <br />study done on commercial/industrial property in Ramsey. <br /> <br />The Commission tabled further discussion until the next regular meeting. <br /> <br />Case #5: Discussion Regarding OJ,ynpic SOccer COnplex: <br /> <br />Mr. Kurak stated that the Governor's Olympic Soccer Complex project is <br />proposed to be expanded after the Blaine site is up and running. The <br />Economic Developnent Canpany has taken action to write to the directors of <br />that project to suggest that Ramsey be considered as a potential si te for <br />expansion of the project. <br /> <br />Case #6: Discussion RegardinCJ Extension Of Utilities To Commercial/ <br />Industrial Area: <br /> <br />Ms. Norris stated that City Council has set a public hearing date of March <br />31, 1987 regarding the extension of sewer and water utilities to the <br />EDC/March 11, 1987 <br /> <br />Page 4 of 6 <br />
