Inquired why it is <br />necessary to put the roadway through a protected wetland. <br /> <br />Mr. Otter stated that the extraction to which Mr. Fountain refers is <br />complete as permitted. Mr. Otter stated that the roadway was originally <br />proposed by the City and Waste Management offered to dedicate the land to <br />the city; if the City determines it does not want that roadway, Waste <br />Management will select an alternate entrance to the ski hill. <br /> <br />Mr. Fountain - Urged the City not to cut a road through protected wetland. <br /> <br />Judy Kyker - Inquired if Waste Management has tested for inorganic <br />comp ound s. <br /> <br />Mr. Otter replied that Waste Management has tested for standard drinking <br />water limits; 31 varieties for organics and 12-15 varieties for inorganics. <br /> <br />Judy Keyker - Stated that EPA says there are well over 1,000 cancer causing <br />carcinogens. <br /> <br />Mr. Otter stated that Waste Management did test for the over 1,000 <br />carcinogens, 31 organics and 15 inorganics. <br /> <br />Jackie Eastwood - Noted that the Ramsey Newsletter stated that the ski hill <br />will not be developed unless the vertical expansion is approved; if the <br />conditional use permit is approved, will Waste Management complete and <br />operate the ski hill? <br /> <br />Mr. Otter stated that it is documented with the City how the ski hill will <br />be developed and how long it will be operated; if the development is not <br />possible, Waste Management will dedicate 50 acres to the city for <br />recreational use. <br /> <br />Resident - Inquired why Waste Management cannot commit to a time when the <br />landfill will be finished. <br /> <br />Mr. Otter replied that volume cannot be predicted. The County is also <br />going to be implementing flow control in accordance with the Waste <br />Management Act. The environmental improvements on the site are all linked <br />to engineering plans and final grades which are better tied to volumetric <br />dates. <br /> <br />Resident - Stated that in 1978, Waste Management said the landfill would be <br />closed by 1984. <br /> <br />Mr. Otter replied that the prediction to close in 1984 was based on the <br />amount of volume coming into the site at that time. <br /> <br />Mr. Miller stated that in 1978 there was a plan to put garbage all the way <br /> Planning & Zoning Public Hearing/August 2, 1988 <br /> <br />Page 6 of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
