Use of these
vehicles is regulated by the
State of Minnesota.
ORVs can be driven on pub-
lic roads only as registered,
licensed vehicles_ No ORVs
(except snowmobiles) are per-
mitted in the public roadside
ditches.
A three-wheeler, which is
used at any time on allowable
public lands and waters (ice
surface), requires a DNR regis-
tration. If this vehicle is driven
down a public road, it must
have a street-legal registra-
tion. If the vehicle is used in
both of the above situations,
then both registrations shall
be required.
For a variety of reasons. in-
C W1a ,..;; .... . ~ ., .'.... """ ~
and line of vision, three-wheel
ORVs are not recommended
for street-legal use. When
three-wheelers are used on

public roadways, they must
meet the standards set for all
road vehicles having less than
four wheels.
For inquiries about the safe-
ty equipment standards con-
tact: MNlDepartment of Public
Safety (DPS) State Patrol Divi-
sion, (612) 297-3938.
A Minnesota driver's license
with a three-wheel motorcycle
endorsement is required when
operating a street-legal vehi-
cle on public roads.
Violation of these regula-
tions may result in receiving a
traffic citation and/or having
the ORV towed. .
In short: If the ORV is not
street-legal with a licensed
driver, it is only legal to
operate on. Private Property
with the Landowner's Permis-
sion (this applies to most
ORVs in current use).

t;

-
tions, contact your local
police or sheriff office.
