Trees,
please,

The City of Anoka has again
been named as a Tree City
USA by the National' Arbor
Day Foundation for the City's
work and continued efforts in
tree care and reforestation ac-
tivities in 1984. Governor Per-
pich 'and the State Forester
will be presenting a Tree City
USA flag and other recogni-
tion material to the City on
April ,26th at the State Capitol
in S1. Paul.
The Shade Tree Technician
for the City, Bob ,Muscovitz,
has announced that all log-
piles in the City will, be in-
spected around the last two
weeks in March for elm fire-
wood with bark intact. City
Code,and Chapter 18 of Min-
nesota 'State Statutes states
that, "It is unlawful for any
person, firm, or corporation to
store bark bearing elm fire-
wood from April 1 to
September 15 in the City of
Anoka."
The City is planning its Ar-
bor Day Celebration on May
19 at 3 p.m. at the George
Green Park Bandshell. There
will be a concert by the North
Suburban Community Band
and a guest speaker. This is
open to the public, so please
come and participate!
There have been many.
neighborhood groupS and
residents requesting boule-
vard tree planting this spring.

, With the help of civic groups
and residents, we will be
working to plant close to 200
bare root trees on the City's
boulevards this year and
" possibly more if the demand
increases' in our neighbor-
hoods.
Our general concern is to
provide Anoka residents with
a positive environment for the
future. '
Last year the Anoka High
School Football ,Team -
assisted in planting well
over 80 trees in one day
in the ~outheast corner of the
,City. Our hopes are that
neighborhood groups, civic
organizations and the football'
team will again help in our
mass reforestation efforts in
the future. After all, this is our
city, and we all have a shared
responsibility to keep it
beautiful. - .
For those residents inter-
ested in planting a tree on the
boulevard, or, if ,you have
questions regarding planting
location, tree species,
disease and maintenance,
please call Bob Muscovitz at
421-6630, Ext. 154. There are
also Street Tree Planting
guidelines in the lobby at Cjty
Hall for your convenience. '
Many thanks go out to
those groups that help us
keep Anoka green.
