Anoka City Hall <br />mailing address for letters <br />and bills is: 2015 First <br />Avenue, Anoka, Minnesota <br />55303. . <br /> <br />Trees, <br />please, <br /> <br />The City of Anoka has again <br />been named as a Tree City <br />USA by the National' Arbor <br />Day Foundation for the City's <br />work and continued efforts in <br />tree care and reforestation ac- <br />tivities in 1984. Governor Per- <br />pich 'and the State Forester <br />will be presenting a Tree City <br />USA flag and other recogni- <br />tion material to the City on <br />April ,26th at the State Capitol <br />in S1. Paul. <br />The Shade Tree Technician <br />for the City, Bob ,Muscovitz, <br />has announced that all log- <br />piles in the City will, be in- <br />spected around the last two <br />weeks in March for elm fire- <br />wood with bark intact. City <br />Code,and Chapter 18 of Min- <br />nesota 'State Statutes states <br />that, "It is unlawful for any <br />person, firm, or corporation to <br />store bark bearing elm fire- <br />wood from April 1 to <br />September 15 in the City of <br />Anoka." <br />The City is planning its Ar- <br />bor Day Celebration on May <br />19 at 3 p.m. at the George <br />Green Park Bandshell. There <br />will be a concert by the North <br />Suburban Community Band <br />and a guest speaker. This is <br />open to the public, so please <br />come and participate! <br />There have been many. <br />neighborhood groupS and <br />residents requesting boule- <br />vard tree planting this spring. <br /> <br /> <br />, With the help of civic groups <br />and residents, we will be <br />working to plant close to 200 <br />bare root trees on the City's <br />boulevards this year and <br />" possibly more if the demand <br />increases' in our neighbor- <br />hoods. <br />Our general concern is to <br />provide Anoka residents with <br />a positive environment for the <br />future. ' <br />Last year the Anoka High <br />School Football ,Team - <br />assisted in planting well <br />over 80 trees in one day <br />in the ~outheast corner of the <br />,City. Our hopes are that <br />neighborhood groups, civic <br />organizations and the football' <br />team will again help in our <br />mass reforestation efforts in <br />the future. After all, this is our <br />city, and we all have a shared <br />responsibility to keep it <br />beautiful. - . <br />For those residents inter- <br />ested in planting a tree on the <br />boulevard, or, if ,you have <br />questions regarding planting <br />location, tree species, <br />disease and maintenance, <br />please call Bob Muscovitz at <br />421-6630, Ext. 154.
